Locks

Lots of 'em.

I'm not sure why the flight climbing Eastwards out of Cheshire is called "Heartbreak Hill." 24 easy locks, with a nice cafe & a pub? No problem - especially after two very entertaining evenings with old friends.

Perhaps it is because each lock takes you closer to Stoke-on-Trent? Except we turned left back into Cheshire.

The Macclesfield Canal is a little gem, beginning with the gentle beauty of Mow Cop, then Bosley Cloud introduces the wilder peaks. We then spend a day close enough to Manchester to get a good broadband signal and find shops selling fresh food, but still not in the fleshpots.

Tomorrow we're having another day off to enjoy the scenery, and on Friday we go underground.

  1. I was once told that they were called Hearbreak Hill because they are just the wrong distance apart (too far want to do on foot and too short to want to get back on board) and you end up walking pretty much the whole lot. Anyway, you should really call them the Cheshire Locks :)

PS Did you stop to admire Izzie's handiwork? :)

PPS you evidently missed two out - there are 26 not 24!

  2. Well, we have a top crew on Honey. Wilmcote Flight in 1 hour 15; Bosley Flight in 1 hour 10; Diggle Flight in 90 minutes. We can do a dozen locks before breakfast. Heartbreak Hill only bothered us because we got stuck behind someone who went out of her way to upset everyone else.

Was very impressed with Izzy's work. She is needed in Diggle, though.
